Developing problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning for college and career success.
The Mathematics department at Estrella High School provides a comprehensive curriculum that builds strong foundations in mathematical concepts and prepares students for success in college, careers, and everyday life. Our courses progress from fundamental algebra through advanced mathematics, meeting students at their level and helping them achieve their full potential.
We emphasize both procedural fluency and conceptual understanding, helping students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that transfer to all areas of learning and work.
Making sense of problems, persevering in solving them, and applying mathematics to real-world situations.
Constructing viable arguments, critiquing reasoning, and using logical thinking to justify solutions.
Using mathematics to model real-world situations, analyze data, and make predictions.
Selecting and using appropriate tools including graphing calculators, technology, and mathematical models.
Foundation course covering linear equations, inequalities, functions, polynomials, and basic statistics. Builds essential skills for all higher-level mathematics courses.
Study of shapes, sizes, positions, and properties of space. Topics include congruence, similarity, right triangles, circles, coordinate geometry, and formal mathematical proofs.
Advanced algebra covering polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Includes sequences, series, probability, and introduction to trigonometry.
Preparation for calculus covering trigonometry, analytic geometry, advanced functions, limits, and introduction to calculus concepts.
Real-world mathematics covering personal finance, banking, credit, income taxes, budgeting, and investment concepts. Ideal for career and life preparation.
Introduction to statistical methods including data collection, analysis, probability, distributions, inference, and regression. Excellent preparation for college and data-driven careers.
Our mathematics curriculum is aligned with Arizona's Mathematics Standards, preparing students for AzMERIT assessments and post-secondary success.
