Exploring the natural world through inquiry, investigation, and hands-on discovery.
The Science department at Estrella High School engages students in the exploration of the natural world through hands-on investigations, laboratory experiences, and critical analysis of scientific concepts. Our courses cover the core disciplines of biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science, preparing students for college and careers in STEM fields.
We emphasize scientific inquiry, where students learn to ask questions, design investigations, analyze data, and communicate findings. Our approach develops not only scientific knowledge but also the critical thinking skills essential for informed citizenship.
Developing scientific questions that can be empirically tested and identifying problems to be solved through engineering design.
Designing and carrying out investigations using appropriate tools, techniques, and safety procedures.
Using mathematics and computational thinking to analyze and interpret data, identifying patterns and relationships.
Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating scientific information through various formats and media.
Study of living organisms including cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human body systems. Laboratory investigations develop scientific inquiry skills.
Exploration of matter and its interactions including atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, stoichiometry, and thermodynamics. Emphasizes laboratory skills and mathematical applications.
Study of matter, energy, motion, and forces including mechanics, waves, electricity, and magnetism. Strong emphasis on mathematical modeling and problem-solving.
Investigation of Earth systems, geology, weather, climate, and astronomy. Students explore natural phenomena and human impact on Earth's systems.
Interdisciplinary study of environmental systems, ecosystems, sustainability, and human-environment interactions. Includes field studies and community projects.
In-depth study of human body structure and function. Excellent preparation for students interested in healthcare, medicine, sports science, or related fields.
Our science curriculum is aligned with Arizona's Science Standards, which emphasize three-dimensional learning through science and engineering practices.
View StandardsSafety is our top priority in all laboratory activities. Students receive comprehensive safety training before conducting any experiments.
